Basic purpose of SHUBHAM-MAITHIL BRAHMAN SABHA - is to help Maithil Brahmans to safeguard their identity in social, cultural and to some extent on economical front as well. Many persons from Mithilanchal have now been living in various parts of the country as also abroad. They are mostly well educated and earning livelihood in a respectful manner. However, in the process of transition from the village environment to the metros etc children now growing are mostly deprived of our cultural inheritages.They simply question the very utility of our high traditions and everything which we have been holding to our neck so far.Common bonds like Maithili language, too is weakening. Physical contact with our native places is diminishing . These developments are having a very damaging psychological impact on our children.
The question is :how to face this situation???
There are many examples where sons/daughters of Maithil Brahmins have married in other castes for variety of reasons -one among them is lack of proper information about well educated and deserving brides for want of a common forum for Maithil Brahmins.Well educated grooms prefer modernized, /urbanized brides.There is no dearth of such girls in our community.But it is often difficult to gather information about them. Both sides keep on hunting in darkeness. There is ,therefore,urgent need for a forum where there should be a massive participation of Maithil Brahmins from all over the world .There should be frequent interaction among members so that they could help the needy persons in locating suitable matches for their wards. .

So shubham could play a major role in these areas .

I ,therefore,request all of you to do what ever possible to enable maithils to know about this group; and contribute to its utility in whatever manner you can . Other related issues will also be discussed in the forum in a manner and to the extent members decide among themselves from time to time.We encourage you to post any activities, posting related to our culture, , new ideas and anything the group will find useful.

" Mithila Mithila has been known as Videh, Tribhukti, Tapo Bhumi, Shambhavi, Suvarna Kanan, Vaijayanti, Janakpur. The name "Videh" occurs for the first time in 'Sathpath Brahaman'. 'Mithila Mahatma',"Brihad Vishnu Puran", "Shrimad Bhagvat", "Valmiki Ramayan", and the "Mahabharat". All these epics not only have the name of "Mithila", but also give detailed accounts of its achievement in different aspect of life. Tirbhukti turned into Tirhut, which is still a division, so named during the British rule. Law courts have decided cases relating to the Hindu law on succession, marriage and adoption, treating Tirhut as a region and its inhabitants as Trihutia or Maithil. 

MAITHILI: a language of India and Nepal

Population 22,000,000 in India (1981).
Population total both countries 24,191,900.
Region Northern Bihar, from Muzaffarpur on the west, past the Kosi on the east to western Purnia District, to the districts of Munger and Bhagalpur in the south, and the Himalayan foothills on the north. Cultural and linguistic centers are the towns of Madhubani and Darbhanga. Janakpur in Nepal is also important culturally and religiously. Delhi, Calcutta, Bombay have thousands of Maithils. Many Maithils have settled abroad. There is a Maithili Academy at Patna. Linguistics and literature are taught at several Universities including the L.N. Mithila University in Darbhanga and Patna University.

Sahitya Akademi set up by the Government of India recognises Maithili as one of the important Indian languages and awards are given to the best writers in Maithili alongwith writers of other Indian languages every year by this Akademy. MAITHILI is also spoken in: Nepal
Population 2,191,900 (1998 census), 11.85% of the population (1998).
Maithili is also taught at Janakpur Campus of Tribhuvan University.
